Banal evil

What you see does not scream. It does not bleed. It does not beg for attention. And that is precisely why it is dangerous. This porcelain figurine does not depict a violent assault. It depicts something much more terrifying: violence that has been domesticated, aestheticized, culturally accepted. Evil that does not need violent gestures, because it has long been part of the norm, of tradition, of what is “pretty” and “innocent.”
